Russian Hill Estate, a family owned and operated winery, is located in the heart of the Russian River Valley. Using the utmost care from vineyard to bottle, Russian Hill is dedicated to the production of world-class Pinot noir and Syrah. The key philosophy of the winery is to maintain the highest degree of excellence in viticultural and winemaking practices to allow wines to fully express the various vineyards that are their source.
Edward Gomez and Ellen Mack established Russian Hill in 1997 after a two-year intensive search for the appropriate site. It was imperative that the land be capable of producing outstanding estate vineyards but also allow for construction of a winery. Only by having full control of both the vineyard and wine production, did the team at Russian Hill feel they could produce wines of the quality they envisioned.
Russian Hill is located in an area of rolling green hills extensively planted to vineyards with views extending from the geysers of northern Sonoma County to the coastal mountains in the west and Mount St. Helena in the east. It is an idyllic location with many world class vineyards interspersed with romantic old hop kilns, prize-winning dairy farms, and lovely country roads that beckon to be explored.
Russian Hill Estate is a 21 acre property that includes a stately house, called Tara by the locals, on the top of the hill. We have named our surrounding estate vineyard Tara Vineyard in its honor. The home, winery and vineyard together are being developed as a place of hospitality for our friends and visitors. With our new winery in place, plans are underway to convert the original winery building to use as a tasting room so that in the future Russian Hill will be open to the public and will be the site of special musical events.
